It is not easy to maintain a car’s paint job over the years and have it look as close to new that it’s almost indistinguishable from a true new one. But the effort is worth the prize. Keeping your car’s paint in optimal conditions will save you a lot of money in retouches. Here I offer you 7 tips on how to achieve this.

.- Wash your car at least once a week to prevent the dirt from sticking. Wash it top to bottom so everything slides to the ground.

.- Don’t forget to wash the tire area and the tires themselves. If you can reach in and clean deeply, do it. Failure to clean these areas will result on dirt and mud “flying” upwards again just to land on your roof or doors.

.- Use the right products such as car shampoo, a sponge, and cotton cloth only. Other materials, especially synthetic can scratch the paint with ease.

.- Never wash your car under the sun. The Shampoo could dry on you and burn the paint when it’s chemicals undergo the solidifying reaction.

.- Find ‘roofed’ areas or at the very least try not to park under trees since you expose your car’s paint to the bird droppings which can also cause great damage. If a bird were to leave a surprise for you, clean it as fast as possible.

.- It is recommended to polish your car once a year in order to greatly reduce scratches and small stains. It is recommended to do it only once a year because polishing actually thins the paint layer a little bit each time, eventually you can reach the car’s metal.

.- Wax your car at least twice a year. Waxing protects the paint and prevents the dirt and mud from sticking to the surface of your vehicle. This will also make it much easier to wash the car.
